Support for Rural GPs' staff

Via Hauora Taiwhenua Rural Health

Hauora Taiwhenua Rural Health is encouraging GPs to opt into its Te Korowai o te Hapori, Golden Key Project. The project adds value to rural GPs by providing local community support to international locums and student placements.

As you know, recruiting and retaining staff is not just about pay and working conditions, it is about the “wrap-around” support, awhi, aroha your new staff member or student and their whānau feel from you and your community.

A reminder is being sent to practices with three options.

1. “Opt in now” which means they connect them with a local community representative to support the practice to provide wrap around supports which meet the needs of the student or international locum.

2. Opt in later

3. Already providing community support in which case they will add them to our Golden Key map.

The Te Korowai o te Hapori, the Golden Key Project webpage on the Hauora Taiwhenua website will increasingly be the source of resources, including a map of Golden Key sites, good news stories, and tips and hints to improve the experience of placements, with the ultimate aim to grow and retain the rural health workforce.
