Established after the Canterbury Clinical Network was disestablished in 2024, the Primary Care Taskforce (PCTF) was funded by Pegasus Health, Waitaha Primary Health and Christchurch PHO to continue as a collaborative of clinical, system and community leaders working on shared priorities to address primary care capacity pressures.
The commitment of the PHOs, alongside the leadership, expertise and contribution of PCTF members has been exceptional. Through a shared commitment to collaboration, they enabled clinically led, data driven service and system improvements, grounded in trusted relationships, shared decision making and a collective focus on improving access to care.
The PHOs remain committed to this collaborative way of working and to building on the progress achieved through shared leadership and partnership.
As the PCTF concludes, a final letter to health system leaders reflects on the factors that enabled the Taskforce’s effectiveness, highlights ongoing system challenges, and encourages the re establishment of a collaborative framework to support the health system into the future.
PCTF resources remain available. Please attribute any future use or adaption of these resources to the Primary Care Taskforce.
