The Pegasus Small Group Programme provides continuing education to health professionals, with a focus on promoting best practice and optimal use of health resources across the primary health sector. Initially developed for General Practitioners, the programme now includes Nurse Practitioners, Practice Nurses and Community Pharmacists. The programme runs in Canterbury and several regions across New Zealand.
How the programme works
The Small Group Programme provides in-depth education on topics that are engaging, relevant and strategically important to the New Zealand health system. The programme promotes evidence informed practice and encourages clinicians to discuss and reflect on their own practice and that of their peers, and to apply the learning in clinical practice.
Challenges the primary health sector face are addressed in the programme, including; over-diagnosis, and over-treatment, understanding variation and uncertainty in practice, shared decision making and improving health literacy, equity, and diversity.
Training consists of groups of 12-15 healthcare professionals. Facilitated by a trained Small Group Leader, attendees benefit from expertise across professional disciplines.
