Southside Health: Leading with care, innovation and courage

Last Updated: 22 July 2025

At Southside Health, leadership looks a little different. And that’s exactly the point. Nurse Practitioner Anna Davidson has built a general practice that reflects her vision of people-first care, delivered by a collaborative, future-focused team.

After two decades working in general practice across private, community trust, and corporate settings, Anna knew she wanted to do things differently.

“I purchased the medical centre because, after 20 years in general practice, I wanted to create a clinic that was adaptable and progressive. When you own it, there is a lot less red tape for change,” Anna said.

The result is a practice that champions continuity of care and values the relationships between patients and their wider care team. Nurses are central to this model, and Anna is now focused on building that team.

“They are a huge underutilised resource, and I wanted to increase community awareness about how much more they could do. When we work collaboratively, the practice flows more smoothly,” Anna said.

Southside Health is also working with local pharmacies to increase access to care for people who are not able to see their regular GP, do not have one, or need care at the weekend.

In a complex and changing health system, Southside Health is showing what is possible when leadership, flexibility and care come together, with the wellbeing of patients and staff at the centre.
