Multi-factor Authentication at Pegasus Health

Multi-factor authentication (MFA) is required when accessing Claims Admin, Wā Kāinga, and Practice View.

Multi-factor Authentication

MFA adds an extra step when logging in and helps protect sensitive information by making it harder for unauthorised users to access systems.

Introducing MFA is part of ongoing work to strengthen cyber security across Pegasus Health systems and aligns with expectations from Health NZ around protecting sensitive information (tewhatuora.govt.nz).

What this means for you

When accessing Claims Admin or Wā Kāinga, you may be prompted to complete multi-factor authentication.

Once MFA is set up, you will be asked to confirm your login using an authenticator app approximately once every 90 days.

Setting up MFA

Before you start

To set up MFA, you will need:

  • your login details for Claims Admin or Wā Kāinga
  • a smartphone
  • an authenticator app installed on your phone.

Authenticator apps are available from the Apple App Store and Google Play Store. Pegasus recommends using the Microsoft Authenticator App.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

MFA is an additional security step used when logging into systems. After entering your password, you confirm your login using a code from an Authenticator app on your phone. This helps protect sensitive information and reduces the risk of unauthorised access.

You can set up MFA now by following the instructions in the setup guide (PDF).

Setting up MFA should take no longer than five minutes. Please follow the instructions in the setup guide (PDF).

You can use the Microsoft Authenticator or Google Authenticator app available from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store.

We recommend the Microsoft Authenticator app because it offers a simpler sign‑in experience. Instead of opening the app for a rotating code each time, you can confirm your sign‑in using a prompt on your phone.

Yes. MFA uses an Authenticator app, which requires a smartphone.

If you do not have a smartphone, please contact the Pegasus Health Service Desk to discuss alternative options.
