Canterbury Polyfest a highlight on the cultural festival calendar

Talofa lava, Mālō e lelei, Kia orana, Fakaalofa lahi atu, Nisa bula vinaka and warm pasifika greetings.

On Saturday 17 March 2018 Pegasus health staff attended and supported  Canterbury Polyfest, a highlight on the cultural festival calendar and an opportunity for Pasifika youth, their families and communities to share their colourful and exuberant culture with the city.

It was an awesome day celebrating Pasifika youth through cultural performance and included nineteen High schools from around Christchurch and the South Island. The Pasifika population is young and is rapidly growing in the Canterbury Region.

Over 7000 people were in attendance and the festival has gone from strength to strength in the past few years with the move from an indoor venue to the utilisation of the ‘red zone’ in Dallington.

This year the Polyfest organisers ensured the event was fizzy free for all vendors and provided a water tank for festival goers to ensure they were well hydrated. Appetite for life, PCWs, Community health providers and  Dental had a presence and promoted their services and collected enrolments for future Appetite for Life courses.

Special thanks goes to Chris John Health Promoter/Co-ordinator for Appetite for Life and a member of the festival organising team for her work co-ordinating volunteers and health promotion activities on the day.
